August Meeting – In Person at Brown and Caldwell!

Hello PUG Members,

Our August monthly meeting will be held in-person, at the Brown and Caldwell office in Walnut Creek! The address is 201 N Civic Dr Suite 300, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, and we will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday August 8th, 2023. Take the South Lobby elevator to the 3rd floor.

The presentation will be provided by Jared Whalen from JDH Corrosion Engineers and is titled, “Condition Assessment & Cathodic Protection of Large Diameter Cast Iron Outfall Pipes Under Piers 33 & 35 in the San Francisco Bay”. The case study presentation will describe the testing and inspection procedures utilized and challenges faced during ultrasonic thickness measurements of old 48-inch diameter cast iron outfall pipes.

July Meeting – In Person at Brown and Caldwell!

Hello PUG Members,

Our July monthly meeting will be held in-person, at the Brown and Caldwell office in Walnut Creek! The address is 201 N Civic Dr Suite 300, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, and we will begin at 11:00 a.m. on July 11th, 2023. Take the South Lobby elevator to the 3rd floor.

The presentation will be provided by Dave Veilleux from CivilGrid and is titled, “What’s Underground? CivilGrid – A Must Have for Project Planning, Data Aggregation and Avoiding Dig-Ins”. The presentation will review how understanding and adapting to the changing landscape of utilities underground using GIS is a must during pre-construction and initial engineering design.  The presentation will focus on the need for engineering companies to identify utilities early, site and plan their projects efficiently, and make sense of the ever expanding and disparate repository of “digital twins” available. CivilGrid is a one-stop shop that provides engineers, project planners, construction managers, and data acquisition staff with the latest in utility data and tools to site and plan projects. With CivilGrid, data acquisition time can be cut by up to 90% and the environmental, land use, zoning, geotechnical, and hydrology information provided allows engineers to start a project design in CAD with just a few clicks.

The presentation will be provided by Mike Bussio from Armorock and is titled, “Corrosion-Proof Concrete Structures: Changing Perceptions of Sustainability Across California & Beyond”. The presentation will review the problem of corrosion due to H2S in wastewater systems and other environments, how engineers have traditionally addressed those problems, and why polymer concrete is the best solution to combat corrosion and I&I issues.

The presentation will be provided by Travis Bohan from Mark Thomas and is titled, “Survey Applications for Pipeline Projects”. Surveyors provide a variety of services for linear projects including base mapping and right of way services. This presentation will discuss some of the different applications and service options in support of the design of linear projects. Project examples will highlight these services.
