Our January monthly meeting will be held in-person, at the Brown and Caldwell office in Walnut Creek! The address is, 201 N Civic Dr Suite 300, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, and we will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 10th, 2023. Take the South Lobby elevator to the 3rd floor.
The presentation will be provided by past PUG Board Member (and Interim General Manager at Oro Loma Sanitary District), Jimmy Dang, following his fact-finding trip to Denmark and will focus on the ways the Danish operate and their efforts to move to a “Green Economy” by utilizing reusable resources. It will explore how they made this shift and the paradigm they operate in. This will showcase how changes are made starting at the EPA level down to the treatment plants. It will also touch on policies, reasons for change, and comparisons between Denmark and the United States.

The presentation will be provided by David Katzev from EBMUD and Professor Kenichi Soga from UC Berkeley and is titled, “EBMUD’s Collaboration with UC Berkeley on the Center for Smart Infrastructure”. The presentation will focus on the partnership between UC Berkeley and EBMUD to create a Center for Smart Infrastructure (CSI). The CSI will address challenges with aging infrastructure, climate change, water supply and natural resources, and emergency and community preparedness by using a holistic approach to provide resilient and sustainable networks through state of the art testing equipment, smart sensors and robotics, and big data and machine learning.

A reminder that our November monthly meeting will not be a typical monthly meeting/presentation. Instead, we are partnering with WESTT, the Western Chapter of the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) for their 16th Annual Western Regional No-Dig Conference Training Course. The Training topic is entitled, “New Installation Methods Good Practice Course”.
The training course will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Concord, CA, on Tuesday November 8th, 2022.

The presentation will be provided by Agustin Lopez from the Sacramento Area Sewer District (SASD) and is titled the, “Mission Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation” project. The presentation will discuss the installation of CIPP lining of pipelines with diameters ranging from 36″ to 75″, bypassing flows up to 29 MGD, and installing new structures in Fair Oaks California.

The abstract deadline for our 31st annual Sharing Technologies Seminar is being extended until September 30th! A big thank you to those of you who have already submitted abstracts. The seminar will be held in Concord, CA, on Thursday, February 16th, 2023.
The SHARING TECHNOLOGIES SEMINAR objective is to share information developed by agencies and industry professionals throughout the world. Topics for papers should relate to pipe technology in construction, rehabilitation or maintenance. Emerging technologies and trenchless construction processes are of special interest. Case histories and/or lessons learned of special projects and new technologies used to solve unusual situations are also good topics. Abstracts of papers should be no more than one typed page and should include the title, a brief description of the paper (limit 200 words), author(s), agency/company, contact person, address, telephone and fax number, and email.
Technical papers will be requested upon acceptance of abstract.
Abstracts are now being accepted until 5:00p.m. on September 30, 2022.
